Title:
Transboundary hydrological drainage areas of the Northern Appalachains Ecoregion: A spatial combination of U.S 1:250,000 HUC's from the USGS and Canadian Sub-Sub-Drainage areas from National Scale Frameworks Hydrology dataset

Description:
Abstract:
Hydrological drainage areas of the Northern Appalachians Ecoregion derived from a combination of the USGS 1:250,000 hydrological units (HUC's) (<http://water.usgs.gov/lookup/getspatial?huc250k>) and Sub-Sub-Drainage areas from the Canadian National Scale Frameworks hydrology dataset (<http://geogratis.cgdi.gc.ca/download/frameworkdata/drainage_areas>)
Purpose:
To provide a geospatial data layer of hydrological drainage areas for the Northern Appalachians Ecoregion derived by combining data available for both the US and Canadian portions representing similar scaled hydrological units.
Supplemental_Information:
This transboundary hydrological drainage areas data layer was created by the Wildlife Conservation Society Canada in 2005 as part of a study to map the Human Footprint of the Northern Appalachians Ecoregion as defined by the Nature Conservancy (TNC)

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
1.Drainage areas from the input datasets were subset of the Northern Appalachians ecoregion. For the U.S drainage areas intersect the ecoregion boundary were selected while for Canada drainage areas east of the St. Lawrence were selected. 2.The U.S. drainage areas were clipped to a county dataset from the BTS 3.The Canadian and clipped U.S. drainage areas were then unioned to create one data layer. 4.Overlaps between drainage areas were assigned to U.S drainage areas. 5.Gaps were filled and assigned to U.S drainage areas. 6.A unique drainage areas ID was assigned to each resulting drainage area in the field "DA_ID" and was based on the input drainage area.

All attributes from the input drainage area datasets are maintained in this combined drainage areas dataset.
