The plan:
2C1Forest's 50 conservation organizations, researchers, and foundations plan to protect this precious ecoregion's long-term health.

There are obstacles. Among them: Canadians'and Americans' limited history of collaboration on habitat protection, and the fact that Canadian and U.S. stakeholders are not fully aware of the others' cumulative history, regulatory differences, or priority concerns regarding this stretch of land.

Protection of this ecoregion's integrity requires 3 things to happen:

1. Canadians and Americans must collaborate across the entire ecoregion;
2. Habitat corridors must be identified and protected, and we must understand what habitat, species and ecological processes to protect - and at what level of protection; and
3. We must build public support for, and implement, a broad range of private and public land management strategies.

2C1Forest exists to ensure that these requirements become realities.

The tools:
To realize our goal, we need powerful tools. And we have them.

There is growing scientific consensus that science-based landscape conservation is the most powerful tool for protecting biodiversity today. This approach is a proven and powerful tool. Coupled with the collaborative spirit and resources of our members and partners, it will allow us to establish protected, large core areas, buffer them via well-managed stewardship lands, and ensure functional habitat connectivity between protected areas, and across the entire ecoregion.

The targets:
Today, 2C1Forest is working to realize its goal by building a science-based understanding of this ecoregion. This research is leading to the development of a set of values and threats maps which will guide conservation efforts, and enable major progress to be made in conserving and restoring the ecoregion.
