There are obstacles. Among them: Canadians'and Americans' limited history of collaboration on habitat protection, and the fact that Canadian and U.S. stakeholders are not fully aware of the others' cumulative history, regulatory differences, or priority concerns regarding this stretch of land. Protection of this ecoregion's integrity requires 3 things to happen:
2C1Forest exists to ensure that these requirements become realities. The tools: There is growing scientific consensus that science-based landscape conservation is the most powerful tool for protecting biodiversity today. This approach is a proven and powerful tool. Coupled with the collaborative spirit and resources of our members and partners, it will allow us to establish protected, large core areas, buffer them via well-managed stewardship lands, and ensure functional habitat connectivity between protected areas, and across the entire ecoregion.
